Defender 110 Seat Conversions: Premium vs Pro
Two packages, one vehicle, and until now nothing on this site explained why one costs more than the other. This page fixes that.
Both are complete rear seat conversions for the Land Rover Defender 110 Commercial, L663 shape, 2020 onwards. Both are fitted at our own workshop in Chelmsford by our own engineers, and both leave with a certificate of conformity.
Certified Scotseat fitter and supplier
Pro-Van is a certified Scotseat fitter and installer as well as a Scotseat supplier. The bench in both packages is Scotseat M1 crash tested seating and we are certified by the manufacturer to fit it, so supply and installation sit with one company rather than being split between a parts seller and a local garage.
Every conversion we carry out leaves with a certificate of conformity, issued by us on completion, for your insurance company and for MOT purposes. It is the document an insurer asks for once a vehicle has had its seat count changed. Parts bought on their own do not come with one, and nobody can issue one for work they did not do.
The short answer
The Premium Package converts the vehicle. The Pro Package converts the vehicle and then finishes it. On the Pro, the rear windows are activated so they open and close on the switches, using genuine JLR passenger car parts rather than an aftermarket workaround, and the load area is laid with genuine Land Rover passenger car flooring instead of commercial matting.
Everything else is identical: the M1 crash-tested and certified bench, the belts, the bulkhead removal, the genuine OEM B-pillar grab handles, the uncovered rear glass and the genuine OEM window mouldings.
What the fitting covers
Fitting is included in the price of both packages. The work is carried out at our Chelmsford workshop by our own engineers, and we issue the certificate of conformity on completion so you have the paperwork your insurer will ask for. If bringing the vehicle to Essex is impractical, on-site fitting can be arranged by enquiry with a travel charge based on your zone. Send us your postcode and we will tell you what is realistic.
Lead times
Currently around one to two months. That is seat supply rather than workshop capacity, and it moves, so ask for the live figure when you enquire. Once your slot comes round the vehicle is with us for the conversion itself rather than for weeks.
One honest caveat
Because of the way Defender Commercial models are built at the factory, a visible bead of mastic remains around the front section of the rear window once the glass is uncovered. That is true of every converted Commercial, whoever carries out the work, and we would rather you knew before you booked than after.

Premium or Pro: the same conversion, two levels of finish
Both packages are the same core conversion, fitted by the same engineers at our Chelmsford workshop, and both leave with certification. The Pro Package adds two jobs on top: the rear windows are made to work, and the load area is finished in genuine Land Rover flooring.

Choose this if the Defender is a working vehicle, or a second family car, and you are happy for the rear side windows to stay fixed. It is the full conversion with an OEM style finish, and it is the package most 110 owners buy.

The Pro Package is £1,704 more than the Premium. That buys the rear window activation, carried out with genuine JLR passenger car parts so the windows work on the switches as they would from the factory, and genuine Land Rover passenger car flooring in place of commercial matting. Why does the Pro Package cost more than the Premium?

Can I start with Premium and upgrade to Pro later?
Ask us before you book. The window activation and the flooring can both be done as a separate visit, but doing them at the same time as the conversion is cheaper than bringing the vehicle back. Call 01245 392225 and we will price both routes so you can see the difference.

How long is the wait, and how long does the vehicle stay with you?
Current lead times for Defender Commercial conversions are approximately one to two months, because demand regularly runs ahead of seat supply. Once your slot comes round, the vehicle is with us for the fitting itself rather than for weeks. Ask us for the live lead time when you enquire, as it moves.
Which Defenders do these packages fit?

Does converting the vehicle change how it is taxed or classified?
That depends on how the vehicle is used and how it is recorded, and it is a question for HMRC and your own accountant rather than for us. What we can tell you is exactly what we do to the vehicle, and we issue certification on completion so you have the paperwork for your insurer.
Will the conversion look factory fitted?
That is what we are aiming at, and it is why we use genuine OEM mouldings and grab handles rather than trim panels. One honest caveat: because of the way Defender Commercial models are built at the factory, a visible bead of mastic remains around the front section of the window once the glass is uncovered. It is the same on every converted Commercial, whoever does the work.
