Crew Cab Van Conversions
A crew cab conversion turns a panel van into a vehicle that carries the whole team and their kit in one trip. We fit a second row of seats behind the front cab, move the bulkhead back to protect the crew from the load, and finish the interior so it looks and behaves like a factory fit.
It is the cheapest way to add seats to a fleet without buying a different vehicle, and it keeps the van working as a van.
What a crew cab conversion includes
- A second row of seats mounted to the vehicle floor on load rated hardware, not to the trim
- A three point belt for every fitted seat position
- A repositioned or new bulkhead separating the crew area from the load area
- Floor, panel and trim work so the finish matches the front cab
- Side windows where the second row needs light and vision, fitted as part of the same booking
- Fitting paperwork for your records, your insurer and your fleet file
Seat count is usually two or three across the second row depending on the width of the van. Folding and removable options are available where you need the load space back on some days.
Options people add at the same time: carpet lining, insulation and sound deadening, ply lining, interior lighting and power, and trim matched to the front seats in vinyl, cloth or leather.

Where the work is carried out
Our workshop
Most conversions are done at our workshop in Chelmsford, Essex. It is the quickest route, the vehicle is under cover for the whole job, and we can deal with anything unexpected on the spot. Drop off and collection are booked to a fixed date.
On site at your premises
For some jobs we can come to you. On site work depends on the vehicle, the specification and having somewhere suitable and dry to work, so it is confirmed case by case when we quote. Tell us your postcode with your enquiry.
Fleet and multi vehicle work
Running more than one van? We schedule fleet conversions in batches so you are never short of vehicles, quote a fixed price per unit, and issue consolidated VAT invoices. Repeat specifications are recorded so every van in the fleet comes back identical.
How the process works
- Send us the details. Make, model, year, current seat count and what you need the van to do.
- We quote in writing. Parts, fitting, lead time and any options, with nothing hidden.
- You book a date. We order the seats and hardware for your vehicle.
- We fit the conversion. Most crew cab conversions are a one to two day job.
- Handover. You get the vehicle back cleaned, tested and with the paperwork.
Before you book
Changing the number of seats in a van can change how it is taxed, insured and recorded. Tell your insurer before the conversion, notify DVLA if the seat count on the V5C changes, and check with your accountant if the vehicle is treated as a commercial vehicle for tax. We will tell you what applies to your vehicle when we quote.

Common questions
How many seats can I add?
Two or three across the second row on most medium and large vans, depending on the width of the vehicle and the seat design. Larger vans can take more. We will tell you what fits safely rather than what fits on paper.
How long does the van have to be with you?
Most crew cab conversions are a one to two day job once the vehicle is with us. Adding glass, racking or lining to the same booking can extend it, and we tell you the honest figure when we quote rather than the optimistic one.
Do I lose the load area?
You lose the part of it the seats occupy, and the bulkhead moves back to suit. Folding and removable seat options are available on most vans, so the load space comes back on the days you need it.
Can you fit windows at the same time?

Do you work on leased and contract hire vans?
Often, but check your agreement first. Some lease agreements restrict modifications or require the vehicle to be returned to standard. Tell us at the quote stage and we will tell you what is reversible.
Can you do a whole fleet to the same specification?
Yes. We record the specification once, repeat it across every vehicle, schedule in batches so you are never short of vans, and invoice on consolidated VAT invoices.
